In 1992, I began researching the Compher family history. With help, encouragement and information from Clayton Compher, his
sons, and Patricia Cates, just to name a few, I spent the next several years
researching and compiling information.
In
1999, I published a book with the results.
Now,more than ten years later, I am updating information and have developed a web site everyone
can enjoy.
As you browse through this site, you will see information missing. It might be a child's name or even a parent's or spouse's name. Birthday, wedding date, divorce date or date of death.. Maybe it's the place these events took place. I would appreciate it if you would help me fill in some of the blanks. Please contact me through my email address: compher.family@yahoo.com
For several weeks I reviewed the U. S. Census Reports from 1800 through 1930, the last reports made available to the general public. In doing this review I have found several hundred new family members. This should bring the told number to over 4000.
On June 19, 2009, I started a facebook family group page called "The Compher Family".
I will also welcome comments or suggestions to improve this site. There will always be room for more stories and photos. These are the things that make a site interesting.
It has been great receiving information over the years that filled in missing information. One of the most recent was from Mary Frances Stone-Studyvin. Mary's 3rd great grandfather was Peter Adams whom married Abbelone Compher. For several years Mary had researched and gathered information on the Adams family, as I have the Compher family. Most of the information on Peter and Abblone and their descendants I received from Mary. Mary, thank you very much for sharing this information.
Plans for the First Annual Compher Reunion is in the planning phase. To be held in September, 2011 in Loudoun County, Virginia. Dale DeCarlo and James Calvin Compher are heading up this reunion committee. All comments and suggestions are welcome. Needed are people willing to help make this reunion a success
