The Latest Family News

May 3,2009

On one rainy Sunday afternoon, I got to visit one of the "Charles E.Compher" farm in Lovettesville, Virginia. Several other family members I had not had the pleasure of meeting before were there to share some of the Loundoun County Compher History. What a great time it was. It re-energized me to continue my search of family members and and history. I am in the process of viewing the U. S. Census report from 1800 to 1930. I have added several hundred new names. Soon, I hope to be able to include them on this web site. In the meantime, if you have any information or stories to share please email them to me.

I report the passing of my sister, Joan (Joni) Dorothy Compher Tarr Drayton. On July 2, 2009 she completed her Journey after a battle of cancer. On the same day Joshua Compher was born. The circle of life was completed.

My brother Bob and his wife Jeannette met with Dean Compher in Purcellville, Virginia. Dean was born and raised in the area and took us on a tour of the area where Compher family members have live since the 1700"s. The tour included a visit to Peter Compher farm ( see photos in photo section), the cemetery at Hillsboro where many Comphers have been buried and a lot of Compher history that have been passed down from generation to generation. This was a very interesting day. It gave me more insight of the way of life a hundred plus years ago.

I have completed the latest research project and have enhanced this website to include these results. I have been working on the project for the past 9 months. The biggest part of this project was tracing every individual through the U. S. Census reports from 1810 to 1930 (last census made public). This helped verifed relationships (parents and children) and added others. In addition, I have found many more Comphers on facebook and many have replied to my inquiries of their families and this helped fill in the blanks of the unknown.

There is still some design changes to be made.
